Kelly,
The best way to lose fat is to make sure you do cardio work out at least 4 times a week. Even if it is for 30 minutes only.
The other thing you should incorporate in your workout is weight lifting. I prefer free weights. I do a set of 3 of biceps, triceps, lats and pushups. 15 reps each or when I am tired 1 set at 15, 2nd set at 12 and third set at 10.
Watch what you eat. This is very important. You wanna make sure your diet consists of plenty of protein (approx. 1 gram for each pound of your body weight i.e. if you weight 100 lbs, eat 100g of protein EVERYDAY).
Different people have different ideas of what work out to do first. I find that I prefer to get rid of my cariod (sort of a warm up the muscles) before actually lifting weights.
Some people do 10 minutes of cardio, do their weight program and then go back to cardio for another 30 minutes. Any which way is fine as long as you are sweating.
You keep up the cardio, I guarantee that you will start seeing results in 3 weeks. (That is what happened to me).
My cardio work out consists of
Stairmaster on Mondays (30 minutes),
Video aerobics (low impact) on Tuesday (20 minutes),
Treadmill walk/jog on Wednesday (if you can run, that is the best workout) (30 minutes)
Video aerobics (boxercise) on Thursday (45 minutes),
Stairmaster on Fridays (30 minutes).
And EVERYDAY, I lift weights
Mondays - Biceps, Triceps, shoulders, Abs
Tuesday - Legs (squats) and Abs
Wednesday - Biceps, Triceps, shoulders, Abs
Thursday - Chest, Biceps, Triceps, Abs
Friday - Leg curls, Calf Raises, Forearms
You will notice I only do chest once a week. This is because I am 'voluptuous' and am afraid that I might increase my breast size (which I don't want to do, but am not sure if it would, so I try to avoid it all together).
Abs consists of 15reps - 3 sets of
Crunches
Oblique curls
Side Bends
Frog Crunches (back flat on the ground, legs bent, feet crossed)
I hope this helps.
