Feeling really bad after any excercise isn't good, in my opinion. Yes, you should feel tired, perhaps even exhausted. Your muscles may ache, and your body may hurt - but you should never just feel *bad*.
Do you enjoy running cross country? Feeling "like crap" after a race may be a mental faculty as well. If you are pushing your body to do something you don't enjoy, why would you feel good about it? Consider that, and let me know some more details, I may be able to give a better response.
