Learn how to set goals for yourself so you can accomplish what you want.
This is something we all have to deal with, find out how to make it a little easier.
"Elementary, my dear Watson...ELEMENTARY!"
You may know a lot of this stuff, but check this section out anyway. Getting in shape is kind of
like building a house--this is where you're going to lay down your foundation.
"Health is the first wealth." --Ralph Waldo Emerson So...Are you ready to strike a fortune?
You have to decide that fitness is important to you before you can build it into your lifestyle. You've gotta make a commitment and be really dedicated to stickin' with the program. Being successful in the Real World requires creatively striking a balance between your physical fitness and your mental well-being. Total health cannot exist unless you feel good both mentally and physically. Fitness is very personal. What's fit for your friend may not necessarily be fit for you. Age, sex, and heredity are all factors affecting fitness that you have no control over. You can improve the quality of your life by changing your personal habits, exercise routine, and eating behavior.
You are probably thinking "Duh....uh....what's like physical fitness anyway, huh?" Well, that is a great question! Physical fitness means energetically performing daily tasks to the best of your ability without getting exhausted. Being physically fit also means that you still have energy to do the fun stuff that you love so much. You'll be able to work hard and party hard, too, because all work and no play makes a person stressed, burnt-out, and way BORING!!! Balance, once again, is key. You won't get sick as often because your immune system (the system that protects your body from the attack of nasty invaders like disease-causing germs) will be stronger. When you do get sick, you'll recover faster and hopefully your symptoms won't be too gross. Sports are gonna be more fun. You'll be able to wear all the clothes you love without feeling weird or ugly or self-conscious and you'll be able to accomplish more because you have more energy--get more bang for your buck. LIFE IS GONNA TASTE DELICIOUSLY SWEET AND JUICY LIKE A CRISP SLICE OF WATERMELON--what are you waiting for? Right now is a gift, that's why it's called the present. THERE IS NO TIME LIKE RIGHT NOW TO BECOME THE PERSON YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE!!!
Mental health means accepting all parts of you and being your own best friend. You
don't beat yourself up over the things you can't control. Mental giants know when they are in
over their heads and they concentrate on finding help. When high pressure situations pop up you
won't stress and freak out; you'll be able to deal because you are in complete control of your
actions and reactions!!!! You'll be rollin' with the punches. Build "Me-time" into your
schedule to slow things down and gain new perspectives. This is how we grow. Being mentally
strong means being positive and building support groups with friends who make you feel good
about yourself and who give you a mental buzz. You set goals and construct plans to achieve
them. You don't need to cut other people down to feel good about yourself, so don't hang
around with people who only feel good when they're cutting you down.
Rome was not built in a day, and getting fit will take some time, too. Start by setting some realistic goals for yourself. STOP COMPARING YOUR BODY WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S BODIES!!! Envy is the root of all unhappiness. This next step's a doozie so brace yourself--UNLESS YOU ARE KATE MOSS'S OR MICHAEL JORDAN'S LONG, LOST TWIN, YOU WILL NOT EVER LOOK LIKE EITHER OF THEM. When you think about it, this is really not a bad thing. You are absolutely YOUnique. You have hit the evolutionary jackpot just by showing up, simply by being born and definitely by reading this. There is no reason you cannot start loving yourself right now. Just like somebody once said, (we think it was Oprah, but maybe it was Snoop Doggy Dogg): "There can never be another you!" Your genetic makeup is the blueprints for your body; genes determine lots of stuff--like whether or not you are gonna have washboard abs or big boobs. Even if you do a gazillion sit-ups and push-ups each day, your body's gotta be programmed for washboard abs and big boobs before you can have them. That's why there are WonderBras and plastic surgery. We feel your pain so here comes the good part: now that you have accepted the things you cannot change, you can change the things that you do have control over; to a point, anyway. There's always room for improvement, something you can change--even just little things that go a long way, like your attitude.
