1. World Food Programme

What is the World Food Programme?
The World Food Programme, initiated by the United Nations, aims reduce the population in the world which suffers from chronic hunger and under nutrition, as well to strengthen the capacity of countries, in particular the developing nations, to alleviate hunger. Up to date, the UN World Food Programme has carried out many programmes to help in the cause.

What has WFP done?
a. Food Vouchers Distribution
The World Food Programme not only delivers food to needy communities, but also distributes food vouchers to the people for them to purchase food themselves.

b. Food as Work Incentives
As part of the “Food for Assets” project, the World Food Programme also supplies monetary incentives for the people to work on water storage systems and irrigation. This programme has allowed crops yield to double and move the countries small steps towards a hunger-free environment.

c. Food Security
As a measure to curb food insecurity, the World Food Programme has reached out to many HIV-prone countries to ensure the food is safe for consumption. Since its implementation, the situations in many epidemic areas have been controlled from spreading, while more than 2.5 million HIV-affected people received meals, with increased food security.

d. Prevention of Hunger Outbreaks
To prevent serious hunger outbreaks in developing countries, the World Food Programme frequently provides school meals to the schools in areas in Africa. The meals usually take the form of morning snacks or porridge, which provides them with the necessary nutrition for the day.

2. Free Rice Game & Competition

Introduction
Free Rice is a non-profit website managed under the UN World Food Programme, which aims to provide free education for all, and at the same time help eradicate world hunger by providing free rice & meals to hungry people all around the world

How does Free Rice work?
Anyone can log on to the Free Rice website and answer academic questions designed to improve the knowledge of students in various subjects such as Mathematics, English and Chemistry etc. The questions will get harder as players advance to higher levels. For every correct answer, 10 grains of rice will be donated. So far, millions of people worldwide have received free rice.

3. Rice Bowls

Introduction
Rice Bowls started out in 1980 as a non-profit organization in Spartanburg. It is a Christian organization which aims to help in World Hunger by providing food for hungry orphans.

What did Rice Bowls do?
Not only did Rice Bowls come out with various measures and methods to raise funds to buy food for the hungry people, it also established connections with orphanages from many developing nations such as Rwanda, Nicaragua and Honduras, so that their help can be extended to more needy populations. Fund raising was carried out through the sales of unique merchandises and campaigns. Food donations were also encouraged. Since its establishment, Rice Bowls has successfully raised more than tens of millions of dollars to help eradicate World Hunger.
