Project background:
There are not just a few students around us who have problems hard to solve when communicating with parents. There are also many films from all over the world discussing the problem of parents and kids finding it hard to get along with each other. Why parents feel annoyed with their kids? Why kids feel unhappy with their parents? Is it because the way they treat each other is not good? Then, why they adopt the bad way of communication? We thought for a long time, found information from the Internet, films, books and newspapers, and asked information from teachers and students. And finally, we found the main reason: parents do not spend enough time communicating with their kids. Some parents do not have time to stay with their kids; some parents, though spend time to stay with their kids, never listen to their kids patiently, and always urge them to be quickly. In Shenzhen, there are a lot of pressure in the fast pace of life. Thus, this problem is more prominent.
About the project:
In this project the students will research information from the Internet, newspapers, books, expects, and so on. They will also brainstorm ideas, discuss with each other, do questionnaire survey, and develop plans to appeal parents to spend more time communicating with their kids.
The students will find out what are the main things parents do after work, how much time parents spend to communicate with their kids on weekdays and weekends, and the disadvantages of parents’ lacking time to communicate with their kids. They will develop some ideas to persuade parents to spend more time communicating with their kids.
The students will create a logo to represent their team. They will use the Internet, newspapers, and books to research information and ask teachers, parents and other adults for advice to develop their questionnaires. They will go to variety of places to ask various kinds of people to do the questionnaires. They will also visit experts and adults to find out the disadvantages of parents’ lacking time to communicate with their kids. Then, they will draw the society’s attention to the problem and appeal to parents to make changes through 9 ways. They will use the project pages in ThinkQuest to find instructions and develop their plan, and the interactive tools in ThinkQuest to create and share their project. The team will use the digital camera, video camera, scanner, and variety of software to complete the project.
The students’ work will be evaluated by the coach by checking if they have tried their best to fulfill their tasks and if they have made progress.It will also be evaluated by seeing how the students and parents felt about the project and if the parents had spent more time with their kids after knowing the project. In this project, the students think and quest. By solving problems they come across, they develop their skills of researching and various technologies, their ability of organization, their critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.
