Have We Accomplished Our Goals?

• 1. 
  Help our entire community set a good example for others.
  This project is focused on providing aid and education. It is regrettable to go outside and see people and children wounding each other. "Zero to Heroes" wanted to help those people and so other people can recognize their efforts in becoming heroes and say: "if they did it, so can we!”. We met the goal through stories of people that went through violent incidents experienced here in our island. We are very proud to see children and young people with their "Zero to Heroes" t-shirt and solving problems the right way. It really moves us when we see toddlers stopping to admire and follow them. These are the heroes, they are the examples. It was a complete success.

  Este proyecto se enfocó en brindar ayuda y educación. Es lamentable salir a la calle y ver jóvenes y niños hiriéndose los unos a los otros. "Zero to Heroes" quizo ayudar a que muchos de estos jóvenes pasaran de cero a héroes para que así salieran a la calle y fueran jóvenes dignos de admirar y que los demás reconocieran su esfuerzo y digan: "si él lo hizo, yo puedo hacerlo". Cumplimos la meta a través de historias de otras personas y de los conversatorios que llevamos a cabo con las víctimas de los incidentes violentos vividos aquí en nuestra isla. Para nosotrosm es un orgullo ver a niños y nóvenes con su camisa "Zero to Heroes" y resolviendo sus problemas de la manera correcta. Nos conmueve mas aún ver a los pequeñines deteniéndose para admirar y seguir los pasos de ellos. Eso son héroes, eso son ejemplos. Lo logramos.

  Unite students of all ages through Social webs, Thinkquest.org, Conferences and different types of Motivational activities.
  This unit is an essential part of our lives as human beings and as heroes. Through social networks, Thinkquest.org, posters, and "backchannels", we can motivate other students and leaders to join and they demonstrate that the youth of PR is not lost, as many say. We want to motivate them so that we know that Zero to Heroes left behind a good legacy, leave behind violence. We did it; we received great news. Around 7 public schools with a total of 1,417 students, became interested in joining the project. This is excellent news! There are 1,417 heroes in the process of going out and be a good example for others. This alone is the start of a new beginning.

A través de redes sociales, Thinkquest.org, conversatorios y "backcnhanneles", logramos motivar a otros estudiantes y líderes a unirse e interesarse en el proyecto y a que también demostraran que la juventud no está perdida como muchos dicen. Queremos motivarlos a que pasen de cero a héroes dejado atrás la violencia. Lo logramos. Recibimos una gran noticia. Alrededor de 7 escuelas públicas con un total aproximado de 1,417 estudiantes, se interesaron en unirse al proyecto y darle seguimiento en sus escuelas. ¡Exelente noticia! Hay 1,417 héroes en proceso de salir a la calle y ser un ejemplo para los demás. Este tan solo es el principio de un nuevo comienzo.

  Get a lot of people to sign a commitment, in which they will assume the responsibility of spreading the word, give good examples, and stop violent acts altogether.
  Many people believe that roles are simply roles. We have demonstrated otherwise. We designed a compromise with which we will show that there are people who are aware that violence is doing us harm and that by signing this paper, they promise to change their attitudes and actions. We show that with that document, we could reach the hearts of many people. Approximately, 200 people signed commitments and accepted the challenge of saying NO to violence and YES to life, it is a great achievement. We are on the right track. We did it; the streets are filled with real heroes.

Que no importa lo que tenga adentro, es un pedazo de madera procesado y utilizado para escribir tonterías. Nosotros demostramos lo contrario. Diseñamos un compromiso con el cual demostraremos que hay personas consientes de que la violencia nos está haciendo daño y que firmando ese papel, ellos se comprometen a cambiar sus actitudes y acciones. Demostramos que con un papel, pudimos llegar a los corazones de muchas personas. Aproximadamente, contabilizamos sobre 200 compromisos firmados de personas que aceptaron el reto y diciendo no a la violencia y sí a la vida es un gran logro. Vamos por buen camino. Lo logramos. Las calles están llenándose de héroes.

  Reflect on our forums.
  As teenagers, we like it when they speak to us in a way that we can understand everything that they are telling us. We like to listen to stories of other people that serve as an inspiration. No doubt, our forums managed our message of non-violence and helped make it come to life. Diego and Francheska inspired us in ways that could touch your very hearts with their words and their pain. Something that we learned and understood was that if their attackers had the same opportunities and education about violence that we had, Diego and Francheska would have definitely told a different story. Students carried out activities in ThinkQuest and showed us what they had learned. Everyone agreed that forums helped them see violence from a different perspective and appreciate life. Mission accomplished.

  Como jóvenes, nos gusta que nos hablen claro y sin temores. Nos gusta palpar las cosas y escuchar historias de otras personas que nos sirvan de inspiración. Sin duda, nuestros foros lograron que nuestro mensaje de NO a la violencia llegara e impactara las vidas de jóvenes. El tener a Diego y a Francheska allí, nos sirvió de mucha ayuda e inspiración ya que pudieron tocar nuestros corazones con sus palabras y su dolor. Algo que aprendimos y entendimos fue que si sus agresores hubieran tenido las oportunidades y la educación respecto a la violencia que nosotros tuvimos, Diego y Francheska contarían otra historia. Los estudiantes realizaron actividades en ThinkQuest y demostraron lo aprendido. Todos coincidieron que los foros los ayudaron a ver la violencia de otra manera y a apreciar mejor la vida. Misión cumplida.

  Share ideas on solutions for our problem.
  This project is one that involves the entire community. It is a team effort, where everybody’s opinion counts; based on this we will develop new ideas through forums and activities such as "brainstorming" and "message board". We read and heard many possible solutions of how to attack violence. Among them were: educating children and teenagers about violence and how to act properly around it. That is basically what the Zero to Heroes team is all about, educating people for a better tomorrow. We achieved this goal.

  Este proyecto es uno que envuelve a la comunidad completa. Es un trabajo en equipo y la opinión de todos cuenta porque en base a eso desarrollaremos nuevas ideas a través de los foros y de actividades como "brainstorming" y "messege board". Leímos y escuchamos muchísimas posibles soluciones de cómo atacar la violencia. Entre ellas estaba educar a los jóvenes y niños sobre lo que es la violencia y cómo actuar correctamente ante ella. Eso es básicamente lo que hacen los "Zero to Heroes", educar a las personas para un mejor mañana. Lo logramos.

  Publicize success stories of people from various communities and the work they do.
  After examining a few possible ways to reach teenagers, we decided to show them stories and testimonies of people that were willing to speak of their experiences while they were going through violent situations. That is why we decided to do a search for heroes in our school; a search for people that have exceeded different types of violent situations. To appeal to teenagers, we made some comics with their photos and stories. We were so proud to see how many students passed in front of our bulletin board to look at the comics. Some of them told us that they liked it very much. Once again, we met our goal.

  Luego de examinar posibles maneras de llegar a los jóvenes, encontramos que nos gusta mucho poder saber historias y testimonios de personas que nos puedan hablar de sus experiencias a travesando diferentes situaciones. Es por eso que decidimos hacer una búsqueda de héroes en nuestro colegio. Una búsqueda de personas que hayan sobrepasado diferentes situaciones relacionadas a la violencia. Para llamar la vista de los jóvenes hicimos algunos cómics con sus fotos y sus historias. Nos lleno de orgullo ver como muchos estudiantes pasaban delante del boletinero y se detenían a mirar y observar los cómics. Algunos de ellos nos comentaron que les gustó mucho ese detalle y que les tocó el poder aprender de las experiencias de otros. Una vez más, cumplimos la meta.

  Invite the Department of Education of Puerto Rico join our Project.
  One of our aims is that this project will reach another more than the school community. That's why we talk to Lic. Gloria Morales to deliver a copy of our project and could thus represent us in the Puerto Rico Department of education for the approval of the same. This was a great achievement for team Zero to Heroes as so we can impact the island at the national level and continue developing and working on this movement against violence. We want a better tomorrow for our island where all heroes have the same purpose, demonstrating a good example and encouraging others to leave violence behind and contribute to the growth of values in our island of enchantment.

  Invite the Department of Education of Puerto Rico join our Project.
  Uno de nuestros objetivos es que este proyecto llegue a otra comunidad más allá que la escolar. Es por eso que hablamos con la Lic. Gloria Morales para entregarle una copia de nuestro proyecto y así pudiera representarnos en el Departamento de Educación de Puerto Rico para la aprobación del mismo. Esto fue un gran logro para el equipo "Zero to Hereos" ya que así lograremos impactar a la isla a nivel nacional y continuar elaborando y trabajando ese movimiento en contra de la violecia. Queremos un mejor mañana para nuestra isla en donde todos los héroes salgan a la calle con un mismo propósito, ser ejemplo y motivar a otros a dejar la violencia atrás y aportar al crecimiento de los valores en nuestra isla del encanto.

A Letter from The Learning Spot

We received a letter that make us very happy. Patria Colón, Director of The Learning Spot, a project with the Department of Education in PR, has the interest to implement Zero to Heroes Project in 17 Public Schools around the Island. She wants that all the School Community take advantage of the benefits of our project. We are very excited and ready to share, learn and spread the word to over 1,400 students!
