What is Zero to Heroes Project?

Zero to Heroes is a movement that was thought up out of the worry of five high school students from Cupey María Montessori School in Puerto Rico.

Our primary goal is to help children, teens, and adults create a better conscience in them; that way, they will think twice before committing any acts of violence and help eradicate violence in Puerto Rico. We got the idea after watching how day after day the news would always be showing another act of violence.
We live on this beautiful island, which we call the Enchanted Island because of its natural beauty and the charisma of the people. But in the last 3 years we have lived very sad moments caused by all the acts of violence we see every day. These acts include: homicides, aggression, domestic violence, child abuse, Etc. Our government has tried to find different types of ways to solve this situation, but we all know that it’s up to our community to rise up and help eradicate this problem, especially children, teens, and their families.
As teenagers, we want to live with our family in a secure environment; like the one that our grandparents grew up in.
These worries made us think about trying to find good ways to look for help.
 
¿Qué es el Proyecto "Zero to Heroes"? (Spanish Version)
Zero to Heroes es un movimiento que nació de la preocupación de cinco estudiantes de escuela superior de Cupey María Montessori School en Puerto Rico.
La meta principal es concienciar a niños, jóvenes y adultos a para que no cometan actos violentos y así ayudar a erradicar la violencia en Puerto Rico. Surgió de la inquietud que sentimos al ver cómo a diario en noticias reseñadas en los medios existía un aumento en la violencia.
Vivimos en Isla hermosa a la cual le llamamos la Isla del Encanto por todas sus bellezas naturales y el carisma de su gente. Pero en los últimos 3 años hemos vivido momentos muy tristes por todos los actos violentos que a diario observamos. Entre éstos se encuentran: homicidios, agresiones, violencia doméstica y golpizas a niños, jóvenes y adultos. El gobierno ha buscado diferentes maneras de resolver la situación pero sabemos que el poder de erradicarla está en los mismos ciudadanos de nuestra Isla. Especialmente en los niños, los jóvenes y en sus familias.
Como jóvenes queremos vivir junto a nuestras familias en un país seguro como el país en el cual crecieron nuestros padres y abuelos.
Esta preocupación despertó en nosotros un deseo sincero de buscar maneras de ayudar.

Zero to Heroes is a project/movement that was thought up out of the worry of five high school students from Cupey María Montessori School in Puerto Rico. Our inspiration came from our love of comics and super heroes because they amaze us on how, with their powers they help others by solving problems that affect communities.

Our Goals

  • Help our entire community set a good example for others.

  • Unite students of all ages through Social webs, Thinkquest.org, Conferences and different types of Motivational activities.

    (Spanish Version) Unir a estudiantes de todas las edades a través de redes sociales, Thinkquest.org, conferencias y diferentes tipos de actividades para motivar.

  • Get a lot of people to sign a commitment, in which they will assume the responsibility of spreading the word, give good examples, and stop violent acts altogether.

    (Spanish Version) Hacer que muchas personas firmen el compromiso, en el cual asumirian la responsabilidad de regar la palabra, dar buenos ejemplos, y parar actos violentos completamente.

  • Reflect on our forums.

    (Spanish Version) Reflexionar en nuestros foros.

  • Share ideas on solutions for our problem.

    (Spanish Version) Compartir posibles soluciones a este problema.

  • Publicize success stories of people from various communities and the work they do.

    (Spanish Version) Publicar historias de progreso de personas de varias comunidades y el trabajo que han hecho.

  • Invite the Department of Education of Puerto Rico join our Project.

    Invitar al Departamento de Educación a Unirse a nuestro proyecto.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create conscience in relation to the violence problem in Puerto Rico through a multiplier effect. By completing different types of activities we will help our entire community get involved. We will motivate them to stop being violent beings and be good examples for others.

Nuestra misión es ayudar a crear conciencia en relación al problema de violencia en Puerto Rico mediante un efecto multiplicador. A través de diferentes actividades involucraremos a jóvenes, niños y adultos. Los motivaremos para que no sean seres violentos y puedan ser ejemplos para otros.

The Meaning of our Name

Zero to Heroes is a name that literally represents the main idea of our Project.
Zero- Represents the inactive state of our island against this problem that clearly affects us in every way. It’s as if you’re looking at people fighting and not doing anything about it.
To Heroes- With enough effort, we can help our society be true heroes by setting good examples and acting non-violently; in doing so, we can help our island achieve what it has long sought for all time, peace.
We all have the responsibility of doing something good for our Country and that is why we cannot wait seated loooking how the governement and the police are doing all the work. From being at zero, not doing anything, we want to be real heroes through our Project/Movement.


Significado del nombre (Spanish Version)
Zero to Heroes es un nombre que representa la idea principal de este proyecto.
Zero- Representa la inacción del pueblo ante la situación que afecta nuestro país. Es como estar en la nada viendo como nuestro país se ve afectado por la violencia.
To Heroes- Con nuestro esfuerzo ayudaremos a llevar a la sociedad a ser héroes reales dando el ejemplo y actuando de maneras no violentas para sacar a nuestra Isla adelante.
Todos tenemos la responsabilidad de hacer algo por nuestro país por eso no nos podemos quedar esperando que los gobiernos lo hagan todo. De estar en cero, sin hacer nada, queremos convertirnos en héroes reales mediante nuestro trabajo. ¿Cómo lo haremos? Al esforzarnos por ayudar a crear conciencia en las familias (niños, jóvenes y adultos) para que actúen de manera no violenta dando el ejemplo. Además de llevar el mensaje en nuestra Isla y otros países que pasen por la misma situación se quieran unir.

Important Team Announcements

  • A Billigual Project

    The most important parts of our project are written in English and in Spanish, because Spanish is our primary language; with English being our secondary. Many puertorricans knows how to speak and read English clearly. But not all of them. With the purpose that everybody can understand the essence of our project we have decided to publish this project in both languages.

  • Un proyecto bilingüe

    Las partes más importantes del proyecto están redactadas en inglés y en español ya que en nuestro país el idioma principal es el español y el secundario es el inglés. No todos los puertorriqueños hablan Ingles. Para que todas las personas entendieran la esencia del mismo redactamos los documentos y el texto en los dos idiomas. Además, a través de ThinkQuest.org queremos crear un efecto multiplicador.
