15. Our final thoughs...

This is only the beginning...

Five months ago we were just six friends who had one common wish: have a positive impact on the environment to make our planet a better place to live in. But we didn't want it to stay as a wish, so we got together and by approaching to our former Science teacher, Mr. Gonzalez, we were able to do this through ThinkQuest.

Since the beginning we knew that our efforts would be directed to improve the environment, but we didn't knew that we would end up working with roof gardens, and we neither knew how far we could get. The idea of creating a green roof seemed impossible to us, but the same way people got amazed with our presentation and realized how easy it was to construct an ecofriendly roof, so did we.

In the end, we accomplished all of our goals and objectives: we were able to reduce the temperature of the classroom; we helped the environment recover a space that once belonged to it; and we achieved on creating an environmental awareness on the people that saw our project and among ourselves.

ThinkQuest was the most amazing tool to show and share our ideas and efforts with the world. Through it we had the chance to transform our ideas into reality and showcase them to fellow students and teachers from around the world. That was how it started, but it won't finish yet. It won't end as another ThinkQuest project, it will continue with us for the rest of our lives. We and all the people that joined us will continue these efforts in our town, hoping to spread this eco solution on our island and in our planet. All of this is just the beginning, the beginning to change the world.

THANK YOU THINKQUEST !

GREEN CONDITIONING, the right way to ACT!

Using eco-solutions as a basis is the right way to fix our environmental problems. In this case making a rooftop garden that reduces the high temperatures in our classrooms is a GREEN way to "Condition" the classroom area, that what we call our eco-solution.

Now a Days we should think about using solutions that are friendly with our environment. Green Conditioning it isn't only a change of actions, it is a change of attitudes. That's what we look up with this project, trying to make people use eco-friendly solutions so together we can save the Earth and make a better life in our planet that is our home. Green Conditioning should not be a trend but a way of living.

You, can also become a Green Guards, at home, at work and your community,,  so we can build  together a prospering future.

GO GREEN GUARDS!

My experience as Green Guard

After almost six months of hard work we saw our project got from idea to reality. here we want to share with you our experience becoming Green Guards.

  • Being a Green Guard was the most amazing and wonderful that could happen. Five months ago was just a simple student who saw nature decay, but did not engage anything to help her. Being part of this group and see how a young generation that unproductive cataloged, have made an eco-environmental project has helped me improve as a person. Now what is the nature, importance, why you should care for it as if it were part of yourself.
Being a Green Guard will not stay here, will remain part of this group all my life, and say all my life because this group will never be separated or going to fall, I know and trust that this group will expand and form a global family, groups like this are needed around the world, that through projects like this are preserved and become aware of the importance of nature over every living creature.

  • Being part of the Green guards has been a truly wonderful experience. We started as 6 people who barely know each other. During this course, sharing ideas and moments has made this an unforgettable experience and new friends for life. It was a dream to contribute my bit to improve the environment but never had any initiative. Until we got together and started this whole adventure. It really is wonderful to know that something that started so small, would cause such an impact and pride. After 5 months and long days of arduous work, I finally reach the day of the presentation. It was an unforgettable experience. View all students and teachers interested in our project is priceless. This work has made me appreciate nature more and realize when you do daily damage.

Through this project we want to convey the message that if there are ways to give back to nature those spaces that have been removed, that if we all contribute our bit, we can change the world, we can make a better one.

Thanks Thinkquest for opening the doors to our dreams! :)

  • Beeing part of the green guards is an experience that I never have before. This is the kind of feeling that I was serching. I feel like this isn't just a group for a project it's the feeling of friendship. I can say that they are my family. I don't just learn about the friends but i learn more about the world- how to save the world, how to save us from wobal warming and how to save money with this eco-solution. It was a great feeling. I wish that the green guards stay together and keep expanding throug the world.

  • Being a green guard had been one of the most amazing experiences of all my life. Our journey was and will keep being one worth it.
When we started our group, five months ago, we didn't knew how far we could get. We learned many things with our project.
If I'd had to briefly say what it was all about, I'd had to say it was all about hard-teamworking. Because one of us alone maybe would have not been able to get as far as we did as a group; because one person may not make a big change in the whole world, but a chain of persons reacting to the first person, noticing about what is happening in our environments, will.
We reached the goals we set since the beginning: solving a problem that has to do with our environment, give nature a space that was taken from it and to make people know ways to improve our life in earth and to keep a ambient conservation consciousness. Our school and ThinkQuest have been substantial tools to make the last one possible.
We do not want to leave or project here, we want everyone to get involved, not only with creating roof gardens, but also with caring about the environment and to keep up with our future projects.

The future for Green Guards & our Roof Garden

  • Expand our efforts to new places.

We hope to implement our project to other schools in our town, helping them become greener.

  • Broaden our group.

We hope to have new member that are interested on finding new ECO solutions to our environmental problems.

  • Become an official club.

We want to create a new student association called The Green Guards to address our school's problems.

  • Promote awareness.

Through education we want to let everyone know about what we do and what we hope to achieve by involving all parts of our community.

  • Be known

We want to create a website about the Green Guards, our projects and Eco solutions, for all the world to take notice so everyone can do them too.

  • Show our project in Science Fair!

Our project was created using the Scientific Method, so definitely we want to show other people at our Regional Science Fair that Green Roofs are a real ecological solution we can all use. That way we will broaden even further our audience.

  • Keep moving forward!

We want to make the Green Guards not just an act, but a way of thinking. We started to move the engine of change and we want to make people see that if we get together we all can become a force to find solutions. We want to make people realize the words our coach told us: "we can all become part of the solution, not part of the problem" :-D
