Maria Radziejewska
In September 1899 Sienkiewicz
met Maria Radziejewska. First of all he was surprised by her
resemblance to his first wife - Maria Szetkiewicz.
She was
a journalist and exerted great influence on him. When they met
she was 23 and he 53 years old. He sent her a letter and his
works but she answered very frigidly, besides she went abroad for
3 years. She came back and addressed to Sienkiewicz. They have
corresponded in spring and summer 1903. During that time they met
once and exchanged photographs, they have written about politics
and contemporary events. In July 1903 Sienkiewicz sent the last
letter. After 3 years she asked him for her letters and received
them (in 1906 he was for 2 years married and was a nobelist).
Long after her death somebody found her diary and now we know
that she was really in love with Sienkiewicz but she was afraid
of telling him so. She commited suicide in 1911.
