At the age of 9, he fell in
love with 26-year-old woman. He was then that he wrote
his first „poem d'amour."
- Reymont - spiritualist
Towards the end 1980-ies
Reymont met Puszow who was a spiritualist. Puszow
discovered that Reymont could be a fairly good medium.
Reymont followed Puszow as far as Germany, then he move
to Wroclaw, where the principal spiritualists' church was
located. But soon Reymont saw the naivety of this
„science" and left Wroc3aw.

As soon as in his school years
(1878-84), his nustable nature was conspicuous. He was
moved from one school to another. He could find no place
to stay for a long period of time. He would go into
crafts or commercial Retivities. He also performed in
some nomadic theatre group. Several times he startd, gave
up and resummed work for the Polish Railways. He also
considered religious education and career. He would
change his place of living very often incleecl every now
and then.
- Interesting genealogy
Baltazar - Raymont's ancestor -
was Swedish. In the 17th century, as a soldier under the
swedish King Karol Gustaw, he took part in so-called
Swedish Deluge and in the siege of „Jasna Góra".
He was taken prisner and stayed in Poland. He was called
Baker. He married a Polish woman. A hundred years later
one of his grand-grand sons would say: „Let a regiment
of devils take you all away" /Direct translation of
Polish old-fashioned jargon. In old Polish the word
„regiment" was „rejment"/ This gave the
family name „Reyment".
- An excellent story-teller
He loved story-telling. Once,
when he was telling his friend a crime story, which was
just nother idea for a book, the waiter in the pub they
were sitting in actually believed that thay were planning
a robbery
- Amattor of experience
Reymont would basically deseribe only what he experinced
himself. Before getting down to writing he would often
try to learn a great deal about the communities he would
treat in his novels. Prior to writing „The
peasants" he lived in the country, near the
village Lipce. Prior to composing „The promissed
land" he lived in the city of Lódź and worked
for a weaver.
