Andrzej Wajda's "Promissed Land"
In this film Andrzej Wajda, the director,
presents the clockwork of the city of Lód. It is almoust a
living creature, characterised by a dynamic development. The
three heroes /manifest/ certain moral
and social attitudes which were typical for that time
and place. It is through them that we
can discover three completely different groups of people
sharing the space of the same city: the Germans, the Jews and the
Poles. The other plots of the film take us to some of the best
hidden and the most appalling secrets of Lód. This extremely
es pressive picture of the gianty which seems to be directly
extracted of some apocaliptie vision is one of the most
convincing and artisticly perfect masterpieces of the Polish
cinema.

This extraadihary mood of nothing but
Baudlaire's Carrion" is completed by excellent
performances of the three young actors:
1 Daniel Olbrychski as Karol Borowiecki
2 Wojciech Pszoniak as Moryc Welt
3 Andrzej Seweryn as Max Baum
and the unforgettable role of Kalina Jedrusik as Lucy Zucker.
