Definition
A sacrifice is a play by a batter that allows the runners on base (probably a runner on third) to advance players even if the batter will be thrown out.

A sacrifice fly is a fly ball hit by the batter that results in the batter being out but the runners advancing after tagging-up.

A sacrifice bunt is a bunt made in order to advance the runner(s) even though the batter will be out.
