at bat
"At bats" refers to the number of times the hitter has batted, with a couple of exceptions.
It is not counted as an at bat if the hitter is hit by a pitch or walked,
and it is not an at bat if the hitter hits a sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly.
It is also not an at bat if the hitter is otherwise awarded first base
because of interference or obstruction.
