Because the Red Sox play in the American League, I do not see or hear too many
National League games, so I cannot really comment on the National League
But, in the American League, in my opinion, the very best PA announcer is the
Yankee's Mr. Bob Shepard. His voice is marvelous, his diction is impeccable,
and his style is incomparable. He's in a class by himself!
The Orioles' Rex Barney also has a unique style and a personal touch --
"Give That Fan a Contract" -- which distinguishes himself from most others.
For years, the Rex Sox Sherm Feller was an institution here in Boston and his marvelous
voice, with it's natural raspiness, will never likely be duplicated;
even though he's passed on, he remains a legend in this city;
no one can really take his place.
I consider myself merely the interim voice, until the most worthy
successor to Sherm comes along.
