Ogden Nash

"The Termite"

Some primal termite knocked on wood

And tasted it, and found it good,

And that is why your Cousin May

Fell through the parlor floor today.

Frederic Ogden Nash was born in 1902 in Rye, New York. This American humorist was educated at Harvard University, and his comical and nonsensical verses are what made him famous. Puns, rhymes, asymetrical lines, and amusing parenthetical statements were what made Nash's verses amusing and magical. Some of his collections include Free Wheeling (1931), The Bad Parent's Garden of Verse (1936), and Cruise of the Aardvark (1967). Ogden Nash passed away in 1971.
