Crabs


Description: Crabs have flatter bodies than lobsters, crayfish, and shrimp. In swimming crabs, their last pair of legs are flat and used as paddles. They have moveable eyes which can be moved into their skulls. Water crabs have gills and land crabs have lungs.

What it eats: Crabs are scavengers and feed on dead and decaying things.

Where it lives: Most crabs live in the sea, either on or near the bottom. Other crabs, however, can live up to several miles away from water. But, to lay their eggs, the females must return to the water.

Other Information: Crabs are an important food source for people. There are three major types of crabs that are eaten; Blue crabs, Dungeness Crabs, and King crabs. King Crabs are the largest, sometimes supplying up to 5 pounds of meat.
