Dolphins


Description: Dolphins are everybody's favorite! These animals have a beaklike snout and 200 to 250 teeth. They breathe through a blowhole on the top of their head. Dolphins are have slick, grey skin.

What it eats: Dolphins mostly eat fish and squid. They eat almost 1/3 of their weight a day! Dolphins have teeth but they don't use them to chew.

Where it lives:Dolphins live about anywhere under the sea.

Daily life/habits: Dolphins are very intelligent creatures. They have been known to lead lost ships and humans to safety. They are excellent performers and love to jump in front of ships. They can swim 19 miles per hour for longer periods of time and up to 25 miles per hour in short bursts of speed. Dolphins can dive deeper than 1000 feet underwater. They break the surface about every two minutes to breathe. They usually have a short exhalation and longer inhalation. Dolphns emit clicking sounds or whistles almost constantly. They are similar to the radar system of a bat. Dolphins can imitate human sounds.
