Recipe for Chackli

An Indian Pretzel


Ingredients

Rice Flour 1 cup
Urad Flour 1 cup
Melted Butter (Ghee) 2 tsp.
Asafetida Powder 1/4 tsp.
White Sesame Seeds 1/4 tsp.
Water 1/2 to 1 cup
Oil 4 cups
Salt to taste

Note: To make Chackli, you must have the Chackli press.

Fry rice flour and urad flour (without oil) in a pan until slightly brown. Combine the flours with the rest of the ingredients to form a moist dough. Take a handful of dough, put into special "Chackli Press". Take oil in pan and heat well. Push the top of the press down and turn it over hot oil in a circular motion to form a pretzel-like shape. Flip and fry on both sides until lightly brown. Remove from oil and drain oil on paper towel. Cool. Serve.
