This was the first battle of the Revolution. British troops, known as Redcoats or Lobsterbacks, arrived in America with the intention of seizing the rebellious colonial arsenals in Lexington and Concord. The American militia were called the Minutemen because they were capable of readying for action within one minute. They managed to prevent the British from seizing their weapons. The first shot, known as the "shot heard round the world" told the everyone that the Americans would fight against their oppressors.
