Humidity is the measurement of the water vapour content in the atmosphere. As water evaporates from lakes, seas and oceans and vegetation loses water through transpiration, the humidity of the air increases.
The relative humidity of the air (ratio of the amount of water vapour in the air to the maximum amount of water vapour the air can contain expressed as a percantage) is measured using a hygrometer.
