For the many years road biking has been around, it has developed into one of the greatest known and most participated sports in the world. From riding down to a friend's house to riding across the United States, road biking is fun, enjoyable, and a great way to get, or stay, in shape. The miles of constant aerobic exercise will improve the fitness level of anyone. It is a great choice for cross training, especially if you are a runner. Also, because you set the distance, the pace, and the amount of riding, it is automatically tailored to your ability. Everything started in the early 1790's with a Frenchman - M. de Sivrac. He was seen on an object that had a horse for a head, two wheels, and a wooden frame. This "bike" could not be steered and was pushed by the rider (like a scooter). As the years passed and new technologies were being formed, bikes developed into a multitude of gears, metal alloys, and other components. Road bike racing is not the center of the sport, like a game is to football or basketball, but technically that's what the sport is built around. community rides have often been the leader in charity fund raising. You'd be surprised at the number of races held in your area. We can't post them all on our page, but if you are interested, go to your local bike shop and ask for information.
A good rider rides a good bike, but he or she needs to know a little bit about that bike and understand just how it operates to know what to do when mechanical problems come up.
