Greg LeMond

  • Starting in 1981 Greg LeMond broke into the cycling world with a victory in the Coors Classic. Since then, and up until his retirement in 1994, LeMond has had some 15 major victories including the World Championship ('89), the Tour Dupont ('92), and the Tour de France not once, not twice, but three times in '86, '89, and '90. In 1987 he suffered gunshot wounds in a hunting accident and his return from the incident back into the world of cycling is by far his greatest accomplishment. Among his many awards and titles he was named 'Sportsman of the Year' by Sports Illustrated in '89, and 'Athlete of the Year' in 1990 by ABC's Wide World of Sports.

Miguel Indurain

  • Five years after LeMond, from Spain came Miguel Indurain. This powerhouse on wheels has accomplished over 20 major victories including the Tour de France five time in a row. With 11 years gone by in a very professional and outstanding career, Indurain remains a reserved, quiet, and myth-like figure in the cycling world.

Lance Armstrong

  • US's Armstrong hit the racing circuit with a bang in 1993. He took the US Triple Crown and more significantly, the World Championship, denying Miguel Indurain the Triple Crown title, cycling's highest honor. Lance's career includes over 11 major victories including some Tour de France stage wins and a pair of Tour Dupont wins. However, on a sad note, Armstrong was recently diagnosed with cancer and faces a long road to a possible recovery. Even so, fans are still hopeful for a comeback.
