Yes, for me to be a good rider, i need to ride a good bike. Your site has provided informations on how a bike runs and operates and what to do when the mechanical problems come up. Bicycling is a lot of fun. The reason why many of us women like to ride a bike, is for us to be active, fit, also for weigh loss and social time. The information posted were of great help.

I created this website as part of a school project over 6 years ago (seems longer!) and totally forgot about it. I guess you could say I've graduated to a higher level. One of the sites I run now is www.cucycling.com - the cycling site for one of the nation's premier collegiate cycling programs - oh yeah, and I race for them too.

Until a few months ago, cycling was just transportation for me. Then I started working in the bike department at a large outdoor retailer, and I realized what it's really about. I fell in love with cycling like I had as a kid, and now, 8 months later, I'm in the middle of a 4500 mile solo journey from Alaska to Las Vegas. The whole experience is so unreal, being 2500 miles from home, having to find a place to camp before dark every night. For me, cycling means adventure.

I have biked all my life but got serious last year and rode 300 miles. This year my goal is 500 miles I like to road ride and trail ride. I am looking for trails in the MidWest and races that might be short enough to compete in. Also, I would love to do a weekend or 2-3 day rides. Is it really worth it to spend over $500 on a bike?

Hi! I have just started biking due to a great friend of mine who is in love with outdoor sports. We decided that we are going to ride our bikes from Front Royal, Virginia (where we will be in training for a program called FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) to Toronto, CA to see the Pope for World Youth Day. This trip is around 500 miles and and we have 10 days to complete it. If anyone could give me some advice on training, diet, clothing, what to bring or think about that would be wonderful!!! God Bless You and all who devote themselves to staying in shape!

I'd recommend that anyone new to biclcling join a club or start one and ask about reliable dealers in your area. People usually are friennly if given the chance to give advice, and this is a good way to make new friends and keep the dealers on thier toes!

I was injured in a car accident eight years ago, I was the passenger, and decided to go back to riding a bike as part of my recovery. It's working. I then figured that if it worked for me and I were interested enough to keep it up as I was and still am, others might feel the same way. So I looked for a club but could not find one close enough for me. So, I started my own, the Chain Reacters ( misspelled purposely) and now have some other people enjoying my old hobby with me. I even met my future wife this way. When I first decided to renew my old hobby, I bought a single speed for ten dollars at a yard sale ( Am I a big spender?) fixed it up and gave it away when someone gave me a Murray twelve speed that needed repair. Now I'm learning to repair bikes for and with my friends and have plenty to learn about and tell about. Life is good! I'd reccommend this to anyone interested in any facet of biking.

HI Im an avid bike rider. in 1998 I had a massive heart attack on a organised bike ride. after 3 hospitals I got a bypass .the surgeon told me that if it wasnt for bike riding I would be dead cause my heart was so strong that it kept on working, but I still needed a new heart. which I got in 02-20-2000 2mos later I was back on my bike with a new heart. so bike riding does pay off. keep riding!

Great page.Nice to read other people`s comments, whether good or bad.My other great love is Ski ing and it is nice to be able to do something different in the Summer besides, running,in line skating, chasing women. Many years ago i raced.Track and took it very very seriousily, complete with a full time coach.Achieved many Championship titles along wiyh the Medals and sort of fame (England)Unfortanetly i gave it up.Many of my friends at the time went onto the Olympics. Some even turned Proffessional, made money. At the time i discovered Girls and it was far less ompetition and did not require as much training,as for racing. Any way i have since re-discoverd cycling and found myself very happy being back in the saddle(sore bum and all) Good luck to you all and enjoy your sport, whatever it is

Fabulous site!! I found the bike-parts map very helpful. Planning to print it and then memorize it. I've been biking my whole life, but when I went off to college I decided to invest in a real road-bike instead of piecing together bits of my brother's old mountian bikes that he'd run into trees. This new bike's my baby, but I feel as if I'm underusing it by only biking 30 miles a week on it. With next summer in mind I'm beginning to think seriously about riding across the country. Have any suggestions? Should I join a group? Find a friend? Any programs with great reputations that I should know about? How about costs? Any input would be very helpful. Thanks alot! E.

I live in Sonoma County above Marin County and ride one to two times a week. I am in high school and go with my friends. I first learned about mt. biking by hiking and seeing peole ride there bikes all over. So i got a rugged bike and go as fast as people with bikes 10 lbs less than my bike. Some of the trails are hard but not as bad as Sonoma Lake with huge diches you have to bunny hop over. Keep on riding!

I have been on the trails, half-pipes, and slopes since I was 10, but my new passion is now cross-country. I sugest signing up for a NORBA race right away, it is hard core and gives you something to brag about. It is good for anyone who enjoys the competition, whether through sponsered races or just personal gain. I'm eighteen and off to college next year, and biking has helped me stay away from smoking and partying because of the endurence aspect. Some advice for anyone out there who doesn't like to wear a helmet: I recently took a nice trip over the handlebars after attempting a 360 off a 7ft. tabletop. Unfortunetly I turned a 380 instead and landed vertical on my front tire, which bent in half around my Mag 21. The only reason I can state this is because some spectators took pictures, which I saw later. Without a helmet I was knocked out for ten minutes and have no re-election of the entire day. The only good part about the concussion was the distraction from my seperated shoulder. I recently purchased a Giro Exodus...it looks cool, and will save me the trouble of calling home from the hospital about to go in for a C.A.T.scan.

All my life I've loved most sports but never found anything I really excelled in. Though it didn't stop me from trying it did get discouraging after many years of missing foul shots, striking out with bases loaded, etc.etc.....Cycling was my first love, something over a period of years I actually became good at. Maybe I'll never ride the RAAM, but quite honestly I don't care. I've completed centuries, and in decent time. Anyway, the point being after many years of feeling like a klutz, cycling has made me feel good about myself, my body, my abilities. So ride, ride, ride. (and enjoy!)

Found a link to your site at the bottom of MSN's home page and since I've been biking since the training wheels came off over 30 years ago, I decided to stop by. I've ridden K-Mart blue light specials, 1970's 10-speeds, serious road bikes and now I have a mountain bike set up for commuting. The Woodlands is seriously supporting bicycling as an alternative mode of transportation. We have 8-foot wide concrete bike paths that will take you anywhere you want to go. How about including a page on commuting? It is a totally different world from road racing or mountain biking.

I'm a lifetime rider, city and trails, and my beloved TREK is my sole means of transportation. Sites like this that advocate biking as an alternative to gas guzzlers are great. If any fellow cyclists happen to be in my neck of the woods this summer, take a tour through the Red hill valley, it's a beautiful scenic ride. unfortunately it may be the last year to enjoy it as our near sighted city council plans on paving it. we fight on, but it looks like a done deal. Freaking developers win again. The citizens lose the lungs of our city. Ride on.

Born and raised in Argentina. I'm 57, married for 30 years now, and have a son who is 21. Spanish is my language of origin. I travel 5-6 times a year to USA. There's where I became interested again in cycling. I've been riding intensively four one year and a half now. What I admire of this sport is that incredible piece of engineering/art that allows us to transform the very little power that a human being can produce into the joy of traveling, and improving your health at the same time. Mi bikes: Gary Fisher Zebrano, '95. Hybrid Trek 8500, '98. MB Trek 1400, '96. RB And some. I like to ride every sunday about 60miles in a Peloton of ~30riders. I ride almost every day 15-20 miles.

I began riding in 1978 in the hills near Ithaca, NY. In those days i rode a Raleigh 10speed on the trails. I had many falls as i attempted to mountain bike. I remeber one trail I was pushing so hard that the Chain Ring snapped. A true face to face encounter occured with the earth. Later I purchased a fisher mtn bike and have been enjoying the rides a good deal more. Last summer (1996) I attempted a jump across a three foot wide ditch. Actually I tried three times, unfortunately on no occasion were the Bike and me able to get across together. Two shoulder oiperations and hours of therapy later I now am riding again. In this area we have some super riding trails. Lake Crabtree trails are the best trails locally. The western part of NC has an unlimited number of trails ranging from a walk in the park to leg numbing and lung bursting and nerve destoying. If you are ever in the area look up trails in the Linville Gorge area of the carolina mountains. Great page guys, it is informative and easy to follow. Your graphics do not overwhelm the info and the variety suggest that coming back the reader will learn more about biking. I know that you young studs are accustomed to riding those young legs but there are some oldsters out there who enjoy a good exciting ride. So include some help for the over 50's guys and gals who are still not afraid of a face plant. Ride on Dudes!
