
Investigating Micro-Organisms
Aim/Purpose:
To look at the micro-organisms in the water sample
Apparatus:
- stick (from broom)
- coat hanger
- stocking
- small bottle
- needle and thread
- microsope with clear dish
- container with lid
- water sample from your local water body
Method:
- Bend the coat hanger into a circle
- Bend hook around the stick and hold it there with tape or wire
- secure open end of the stocking on the hanger
- and on the other end, secure a small bottle with wire
- Use this device in your local river and take a few samples. Store in
a container with lid

- Take it back to a lab and analyze it with a microsope. Report what
you saw
Conclusion:
- Using a book with a chart of micro-organisms (found at your local library), identify the micro-organisms that are present in your water sample.
