
Aim/Purpose:
To measure the amount of oxygen in the water sample.
Note:
Gases are much less soluble in water than solids. Solubility of gases depends on pressure and temperature. Unlike most solids, gases are less soluble as temperature rises. Therefore high temperature kills aquatic life since there is less oxygen avaliable. You may have noticed that when you boil water, little bubbles rises up.

Dissolved Oxygen is very important since it affects aquatic life and a well balanced ecosystem. Healthy rivers have an oxygen saturation of 90%, and anything below 90% is considered unhealthy since water contains lots of oxygen demanding substances (eg organic wastes).
