BILL BOJANGLES ROBINSON

A Richmond(Virginia) native, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson is known for his dancing. He has performed in Hollywood films with actors/actresses Lena Horne, Will Rogers, Cab Calloway, and Shirley Temple.

Robinson's famous staircase dance was performed many times in Richmond on the steps of the Capitol and others in the city before it was filmed on The Little Colonel with Shirley Temple.

In Richmond, he is remembered not only for his dancing, but his generosity. Robinson's memorial, an aluminum likeness, is at the intersection of Leigh, Adams, and Chamberlayne streets where he had donated traffic lights to ensure the safety of school children taking the same path Robinson took to school as a child.
