Martin Van Buren

Birth-Death: (1782 - 1862 ) Term: (1837-1841 )

Van Buren did not enter the Presidency hoping to curb inflation. Instead, he stated he wished the world to see the United States as a role model. However, when the Panic of 1837 hit shortly thereafter, he wasn't sure what to do. Van Buren decided to continue Andrew Jackson's deflationary policies, which did not solve the problem.
