Tyler took the office after the quick death of William Henry Harrison. When he vetoed the new Treasury bill in 1853 he alienated his whole cabinet, and every member effectively resigned.
Major Events with John Tyler
1842 - Webster-Ashburton Treaty
The treaty put an end to the sporadic fighting between the United States and Canada along the Maine-Canada border. It drew a new and final line on the map which followed the St. Croix River, then the St. John's River westward, then followed the 45th parallel to the St. Lawrence River, and along the St. Lawrence to Lake Ontario. At the same time the border between the Lake of the Woods and Lake Superior was fixed. Except for the Oregon Territory, the Northern border of the United States was decided.
1845 - Texas Annexed
On March 1st Texas was officially annexed to the United States. It would become a state nine months later on December 29, 1845.
