Who was Zachary Taylor ?

Zachary Taylor was born in Virginia, but raised on a plantation in Kentucky. Taylor became a career soldier, one that enters and lives the military life. His home was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but he also owned a plantation in Mississippi.

Taylor was elected President due to the Free Soil Party, which stole some votes from Taylor's Democratic opponent, Lewis Cass. He ran his administration like a true military officer, and stood firm on his willingness to bring war upon the South if they rebelled. Although he was elected as a Whig, many times he acted as if he belonged to no party, and did what he felt was best for the nation despite protest.
