James Knox Polk

Birth-Death: (1795 - 1849 ) Term: (1845-1849 )

President Polk set out to do certain things in his administration. One of his biggest goals was to expand the United States by adding Oregon, Texas, and California. Encouraging the concept of Manifest Destiny, Polk did all of this. He hoped that the expansion would help to strengthen the nation, which was weakening over sectionalist issues.
