James Madison

Birth-Death: (1751 - 1836 ) Term: (1809-1817 )

James Madison inherited problems with Britain and France when he became President. Much of Madison's administration was spent dealing with fact that both these nations felt the young United States could be considered nothing more than an annoyance. It was not until the U.S. defeated the British in the War of 1812 that Great Britian took the U.S. seriously.
