Andrew Johnson

Birth-Death: (1808 - 1875 ) Term: (1865-1869 )

After President Lincoln's assassination, Johnson began his duty as President by working towards reconstruction in the South. In 1865, before Congress was in session, his efforts moved in the right direction. However, once Congress got together, the Radical Republicans began to undo all that Johnson had done, expanding the split between the South and North.
