Foreign Events of Benjamin HarrisonHarrison's Secretary of State was James G. Blaine. Blaine was very aggressive when settling disputes and acquiring territories for the United States. The best example would be the Samoan conflict when the United States imperialized its first territory far from its shores. Blaine's goal in Latin America was to replace Great Britain as the chief supplier of manufactured goods. The Pan-American conference was organized in the 1890s. However the Latin American nations were so terrified by the US's size that they shied away from any commitments. |
