Ulysses Simpson Grant

Birth-Death: (1822 - 1885 ) Term: (1869-1877 )

Grant's successes in the Civil War made him widely popular in no time at all. Much like Washington, Grant came to the Presidency because of his military acheivements. Unlike Washington, however, Grant was not a great political leader, which he admitted in his inaugural address. Although not always at the center of things, scandal plagued much of Grant's administration.
