James Abram Garfield

Birth-Death: (1831 - 1881 ) Term: (1881-1881 )

President Garfield used his short time as President to attack political corruption in government. Despite the fact he was only in office for six months, Garfield managed to quickly strike and destroy the corruption of the Stalwarts at the New York Customs House. His victory improved the public opinion of government, which had been falling since the Reconstruction.
