Millard Fillmore

Birth-Death: (1800 - 1874 ) Term: (1850-1853 )

President Fillmore decided to use compromise in order to solve his problems. He hoped to lessen tension between the people of the United States. A prime example is his support for the Compromise of 1850, which, among other things, established California as a free state, while strengthening the fugitive slave law.
