Dwight David Eisenhower
(1890 - 1969 )
Who was Dwight Eisenhower ?
Dwight D. Eisenhower was born David Dwight Eisenhower in Texas. After being educated in Kansas, he went to West Point. He quickly rose in the ranks; on D-Day in 1944, he was Supreme Commander of the troops invading France. Following the war, he was for several years the President of Columbia University.
After surviving both World Wars, it is not so surprising that President Eisenhower looked toward world peace. This ideal carried over to domestic issues as well. He ordered the desegregation of the Armed Forces, and enforced the desegregation of schools.
