Foreign Events of James Buchanan

At the brink of the Civil War, the United States was not looking for outside help. Europe was angry with the U.S. after the Ostend Manifesto became known, and although it continued its trade with the United States very little moral support was given to the North to abolish slavery or to the South to continue fighting for it.
