Chester Alan Arthur

Birth-Death: (1830 - 1886 ) Term: (1881-1885 )

President Arthur used his office to encourage reform in government. He encouraged the passage of the Pendleton Civil Service Act, and vetoed "pork barrel" bills in Congress. He wanted the government to be honest and respected.
