5.4 Four-Sided Polygons
Polygons
Polygons consist entirely of segments.
In a polygon, consecutive sides intersect only at endpoints.
Nonconsecutive sides do not intersect.
In a polygon, each vertex belongs to two sides.
Naming Polygons
Polygons are named by starting at any vertex then moving clockwise or counterclockwise.
Convex Polygons
Definition-A convex polygon is a polygon in which each interior angle had a measure less than 180 °.
Diagonals of Polygons
Definition-A diagonal of a polygon is any segment that connects two nonconsecutive (non adjacent) vertices of the polygon.
Quadrilaterals
1.Parallelogram- It has both pairs of opposite sides are parallel.
2.Rectangle- It has all the properties of a parallelogram and it has atleast one right angle.
3.Rhombus- It is all the properties of a parallelogram with atleast two consecutive sides congruent.
4.Kite- It is a quadrilateral in which two disjoint pairs of consecutive sides are congruent.
5.Square- It is a quadrilateral which has the properties of both a rectangle and a rhombus.
6.Trapezoid- It is a quadrilateral whic one pair of parallel sides.
7.Isoceles Trapezoid- Its is a trapezoid with congruent legs.
