Do you want to become a better athlete? Well then its
time to get mental! Now seriously, mental preparation is
what seperates the good from the best. A university
basketball coach once tested the idea of mental
preparation in sports. The coach had 2 lines of players,
an A line and B line. The coach made his A line practice
a special kind of shot, while the B line was put into a
room and told to think about how to shoot that shot. This
practice continued for 2 hours. After the time elapsed,
the B line was shooting the shot just as well as the A
line without any real practice. Mental preparation for a game should start well in advance of the kick-off. You should be thinking about how you are going to position yourself, challenge your opponents, play the ball, and focus on the skills you want to improve. By the time the game actually begins, you should be able to visualize your performance. Don't be afraid to get mental. We do it all the time. |
