The "Mona Lisa" was painted between 1505 and 1514. The true identity of the person whom Leonardo depicted in this painting is still unknown. A man by the name of Giorgio Vasari is led to believe that the rich Florentine named Francesco del Giocondo had Leonardo paint this painting of his twenty-six year old wife "Madonna Lisa". Others believe that it is a painting of the Duchess of Francavilla, Constanza d'Avalos. The truth has not yet been reached and until that time the answer remains buried in time. Who knows? The true Mona Lisa may even be a composite of several faces whom Leonardo once knew. Some believe it is Leonardo himself disguised as a woman.
