Leonardo created this famous work of art for the Monastary of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. It was to be a fresco painted in the refectory of the Monastary. He began this painting in 1495 and had it nearly finished in 1497. The painting is of the famous scene in the Bible incorporating Jesus in the center and his disciples around him. Unfortunately being the nature of fresco paintings, it had already started decaying by 1556. What is left of "The Last Supper" is a result of several generations of restorers.
