Peer inside the window to the web at Willoway, where students are inventing the future of education. Willoway students interactively use the internet in all phases of their day. Students meet via video conferencing with their peers and teacher, go on daily virtual field trips with each other across the web, create and build their own web sites and utilize technology to its fullest to enrich their educational experience.

No longer are today's kids confined to the four wall of a classroom. The world is their classroom and the internet their road. Willoway students use a shared whiteboard to work on collaborative writing projects, share ideas, transfer graphics, create new ideas. Students are limited only by their own imaginations.

Willoway was founded by Janet B. Hale, a published children's author and public school classroom teacher. Mrs. Hale saw that our children were being short-changed across America and decided to put the rich resources of the web combined with the exciting motivation of technology into action. The result was Willoway.

How is Willoway a school of the future? First of all, students at Willoway do not attend a physical school. Our school is in cyberspace, the home, and the community. Our classroom is created daily by using various conferencing packages depending on the educational goal of the day. We use Enhanced CuSeeMe, CoolTalk, PictureTalk for conferencing and we expect to add additional software as technology continues to change.

Secondly, the entire curriculum is "web based." We use internet resources almost exclusively to deliver content in the areas of social studies, science and language arts.

Thirdly, we teach and use the latest technologies in the
world to ensure that all students are being prepared for the next century. We believe that preparing our children in this way will produce dynamic leaders able to give back and teach these principals to others globally. If interactive video conferencing is good enough for the world's largest corporations, they why not for kids?

Why do we need a school like this? Because as a society we grow,we change we move forward and apply new discoveries to enrich the lives of people. As society continues to change and become more technically oriented, new educational options are needed for our children. At Willoway students are motivated, excited to learn, and being prepared for our future daily but best of all, parents are actively involved in the direction of their child's education.
