instrument used for image capturing was a binocular
CCD-based imager with a 12 position color filter wheel.
The 12 cm seperation between camera eyes provides for
stereo enhanced images if desired. The camera has a set
f-stop and focal length (f/18, 23 mm). This eliminates
the requirement for active focusing, while still
providing an almost infinte focal range.
....The CCD uses frame transfer to act as a shutter for recording electronically. This eliminates undesired additional moving parts. The active sensing area is 256 x 256 pixels in each camera eye. Each eye has a limited field of view @ 14.4 degrees. The camera eyes sit on a jack-in-the box mast that can extend as much as a meter above the lander. |
