Pathfinder was designed as multiple purpose vehicle for
collecting critical data needed for planning future
missions to mars. Since this data that is collected can
not be sent back to earth in a tangible form, it all has
to be sent through radio signals. ....This was the challenge that Peter H. Smith and his team had to overcome when designing the Imager for the MESUR Pathfinder. The images collected must be in a digital format. They also needed to figure a way to maximize the use of these images.
