times you will have a negative with relatively good
contrast. You say "Then thats it!" Sorry,
good contrast is only half of a good print. Once you
get into more advanced printing, you will need to
manipulate light and dark areas of the image to
create a better overall print.
Burning
as they call it, is the technique of covering the
entire print with cardboard or some type of board,
that has a scalable hole. This hole is where light
shines through to expose the paper.
Dodging
is the opposite. Dodging is a tool that uncovers the
entire image except for a small area that remains
unexposed.
