Holland has much water, a big reason is that a big part of Holland is lower as the sea level. Holland has two big rivers, the Meuse and the Rhine, the Rhine is the biggest. At the Rhine's mouth lays the biggest seaport of the world, Europoort in Rotterdam. Because Holland is for a big part lower as the sea surface Holland cannot stay dry without the dike's, it happened many times that a dike had broken and a big part of Holland came under water. One of the biggest disasters in the history of Holland was the flood of 1953, at that flood almost the whole province Zealand came under water and more then 1800 inhabitants of Holland died. That disaster was the reason that people started with a very big project, the Deltaplan.
But water is not every time bad, Holland has many times used the water. Hundreds of years ago many of castels had a ring of water around it, and much people live of fishing. And a big part of the Dutch trade is done by ships, and ships cannot sail without water.
