This page is about something other typically Dutch, tulips. Tulips are flowers and they are grown in Holland in large quantities. In the west of Holland, near Amsterdam, there are very big fields full with tulips, they grow there to be sold all over the world. Tulips are not really Dutch, they come from Turkey. They came to Holland ±400 years ago. They were brought to Holland by Turkish traders. In that time tulips where very expensive, only very rich people could buy a tulip, they where used to show how much money you had.

There are more then 100.000 different tulips. You can see lots of tulips on the homepage of Kees Stoop. Here you can also find the tulip of the week. Some extra information about this tulip is provided. Tulips are well known in Holland and much used in paintings, you can see that in the paintings of John Sayers, look at his homepage.

Sometimes people tell strange things about taking care of a tulips, i've read if you put a nail into the topside of the tulip it will not droop. I've read that at the Web, if it is still on the Web now you can find it at http://www.bpa.nl/intermediair/KVragen/hangende_tulpen.html.

A few time ago was in Amerika an very big festival about tulips, you can find the tulipfestival at the Web.
