Fiddle

The modern fiddle is a violin played with a more simple technique
than found in classical violin playing. Like a violin, a bow is the
normal way that the strings are caused to vibrate, though bluegrass and country musicians sometimes pluck the strings. The tones of the fiddle are changed by pressing the strings against the neck with the fingers thereby shortening the length of the string that vibrates and raising the sound it makes.

Spike Fiddle is a folk instrument with a neck that pierces its body and protrudes below to be a support for the instrument as it rests on the ground. It is common in Asia and Eastern Europe.
